Courtroom Lawyer vs. Contracts Lawyer

A litigation attorney has argued it in front of juries, he’s listened to judges and juries comment about the language that’s been used in various litigation regarding contracts and so he’s much more sensitive to, “all right, if this gets into a dispute, does this really say what is on the minds of these people or is it something that came out of a book that sounds great?”

Does Your Attorney Have Your Case Experience?

Eric Lanigan with Lanigan and Lanigan attorneys in Winter Park Florida talks about hiring an attorney who has the legal background to give your case the knowledge to litigate your case. Does your attorney have your case experience? You’d better find out before you hire a lawyer.

Hire a Litigator for Contracts

The reality is, you see the ads that say, “I’ll fight for you,” but the bottom line is you want a litigator who’s a good negotiator; so by definition, they know how to negotiate. And you want them to write that contract because they’ve been to court.

Judge Compliments Eric Lanigan for Trial Work

Hi, I’m Eric Lanigan of Lanigan and Lanigan law firm in Winter Park, Florida. When I was asked to come in and handle a trial for some defendants but with only two weeks to prepare for trial, I had to work with the time I was allotted. After two weeks of preparation, we went into trial and at the end of the trial, we were at a post-trial motion. The judge made the following comment in talking about things that had gone on pre-trial and I quote: “Mr. Lanigan did a great job when he came in. I was floored when he came in at the last minute, floored how well he did… just floored how well you did.” –Post-trial statement from Florida Circuit Court Judge A lawyer can work 50 years and never hear more than a “thank you” from the judge for the work done. I was honored to hear that I’d done well in the eyes of the Court. Two-Week Trial Preparation Trial preparation for a client’s case is very important. It requires extensive time to review all the evidence, meet with clients, review depositions, decide key arguments in order to build a powerful defense. In this case there was two weeks to prepare the case. Planning and time sound like solid tacts, and in a perfect world, these might would included along with an exact timeline, checklist of actions. But I came into a case that had been going on for a couple of years and I was literally hired several weeks before the trial. In a situation like this, you can try, but there’s literally, no way that...

FL Law Firm Lanigan and Lanigan Shares Its Story: Part 1 of 3

How Florida Attorney Eric Lanigan Began Practicing Law I’m Eric Lanigan with FL law firm Lanigan and Lanigan attorneys in Winter Park, Florida. I’ve had many people who have watched various videos we’ve done and read some of our blog posts who when they’ve come in had commented that while all of the videos are educational and helpful, they really don’t know anything about who is the person behind the voice and it’s been suggested that maybe I talk a little about who I am and how I got to be standing here today. And a brief history I’ve always lived in Florida. I moved to Winter Park with my family when I was 12 years old in 1963. And other than going away to college and law school, I’ve lived here in Winter Park my whole life. I went to Winter Park High School, I then went to Florida State University graduated from Florida State in 1973 and then went to Stetson Law School in St. Petersburg. Graduated from Stetson in 1976. Came back, decided I wanted to practice in Winter Park. When you’re in college and you go away you visit friends and when you do that see what towns where other people live, I remember thinking to myself, Winter Park’s a pretty nice place. So I decided that I was going to come back here and live. I came back here after law school, by that time I was married and my son Roddy—who now practices with me—was a one year old baby. And we moved back to Winter Park. I got a job with a...
